I’ve come to learn that cats and kids love cardboard boxes. Cats love them because, well, cats love simple things. Kids love them because to them a box isn’t always just a box. There’s just something fun about getting a really big box and pretending that it’s whatever you want it to be that day.
Not a Box is about a little bunny with a big box! But it’s not a box. It’s a rocket ship, a mountain, a robot costume; It’s anything that he can imagine that it is.
I loved reading this book and seeing all of the things that this “not a box” was to the bunny. I remember having a refrigerator box as a kid that stayed for months! It was a race car, a club house, and so much more in the time that it was in the house. Now as an adult with kids of my own, this book reminds me not to ask them about their box and to ask instead what kind of adventure they’re having today.
