Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz and Kevin J Anderson

prodigal sonNot for the faint of heart, Prodigal Son is a dark sci-fi story with heavy crime fiction elements. It is also the first book of the Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein series.

Since creating his first monster, Victor Frankenstein has used his talents in mad science to extend his life indefinitely. He now goes under the name of Victor Helios and owns a corporation that acts as a front for his ongoing efforts to create an army of super humans. Most of the story is set in New Orleans, but the book begins with a brief prologue at a Tibetan monastery where physically and mentally scarred, seven-foot-tall Deucalion has been hiding out for decades. When word reaches the monastery that Victor is gearing up for something big and sinister, Deucalion leaves his refuge for a final confrontation with his maker.

The characters really stand out in this one. The reader will get to know a psychopathic serial killer, an autistic teenager, and a hard-boiled female police detective with equal intimacy. Although the gruesome details may put off some readers, there’s still a lot to like about this twisted series.

Check the PPLC Catalog for Prodigal Son.
