In the first four volumes of Saga, we follow Alana, Marko, and their newborn baby, Hazel, as they flee for their lives. Marko and Alana are from two opposing worlds that are involved in a galactic war, and both sides want them dead. Deserting their respective militaries to be together, they must try to live a normal life while raising their daughter.
Among those hired to assassinate the young family are Prince Robot IV, The Will, The Stalk, and even ex-girlfriends with vendettas of their own. Flipping back and forth between all of these perspectives, the reader can start to piece together the effects of this galactic war on different planets and their inhabitants. Although set in an alien world, these characters are very relatable and human as they suffer from the likes of heartache, PTSD, and loss.
Saga is beautifully and uniquely illustrated with many striking and provocative full page drawings. While the series has been put into four bound volumes, it is not complete; individual issues are still produced and I avidly await the next installment. Start reading today and you’ll be hooked.
